Walked in from NE and had a distinct impression we were not welcome.Dry underfoot which made a change this year. Lovely autumnal views all round; fells and picturesque tarn to the north, Morecambe Bay channels to the south.Returned to the road without leaving a footprint or upsetting anyone, so no harm done.

Parked on the road heading South from Low Gate. Small metal bar gate in wall at SD3625082659. Through the gate and along the track through the wood. Game release pens in the wood so took care not to disrupt anything. Eventually at the edge of the wood scaled wall and nipped across open fell to the trig. Excellent views and just managed to get the trig as the sun was setting. All metal work intact. returned via same route.

Ten days after my previous failure to reach this trig I returned to the fray. This time I approached from Grassgarth. Crossed through the wall easily, adjacent to barricade in wall just prior to path reaching access land. About the only place I've seen hereabouts that does not have a 'Private' sign attached. Very murky. Returned to access land through gate with obligatory 'Keep Out' sign.

Discretion being the better part of death I decided to abort this visit when a large number of men and dogs started to shoot at anything that moved by the tarn! I'd reached the wall where the 'trespass' commences when the pellets started flying - as opposed to the unfortunate ducks, who stopped flying. Marked as 'inaccessible' on basis I wasn't going to visit under the landowners nose - especially as he had a gun; and it wasn't a pleasant place to be at the time.

Second visit. For photographs and GPS measurement. SITE VISIT: Overall approach from east. Parked by west side of unclassified road at SD362826. Intended direct route across woods turned out to be a disorientating jungle hike. Once out onto open hill, direct route to trig. Open grazing top overlooking the Tarn. Pillar in good condition. Spider retains original OS centre cap with shallow engraved letters. Flush bracket faces east, ~97. Vented through east and south sight holes. Open 360 panorama, hazy on day of visit. Returned via deserted track and gate to north of woods.
