Visited trig during 13.8 mile walk from Longshaw (Haywood car park), lovely warm sunny day, good views from this trig just a short distance from Nelson's Monument & the Three Ships Rocks. Been to this one before as visited it was staying in the Peak District in September 2014.

Parked to the north along Clodhall Lane. Followed the footpath to the base of the the ridge. Ended up having to walk a little NE through an area of ferns to make it up onto the top of Birchen Edge. From there it was an easy walk to the trig and onto Nelson's Monument. On the return trip, we followed a footpath all along the edge, which returned up to the gate we entered via. This path was a log wetter and boggy in places, but still passable.

Parked at sk278740 sufficient spaces for about 6 cars. Headed south aiming for the rocky outcrop. I missed the footpath approach to summit from the north. I was hoping to find another path close by however ended up nearly at the Robin Hood Farm car park. Eventually I came across what turned out to be a very rocky scramble path to the flat topped summit. Some lovely weathered rocky outcrops especially the group next to Nelson Monument known as the Three Ships. Pillar is newly painted. Spider plug plastic infill Flush bracket faces SE.

A 24 mile hike saw me complete the Peak District 9 Ridge Walk and it included 4 pillars, all of which I have previously visited. This was the 4th and it looked great against the backdrop of a bright sky and the purple heather.

Easy find. Park in the car park next to the Robin Hood pub, follow the road to the left slightly and up into the woods. Once there follow the more defined path and head up the rocks at a suitable point (there’s a couple of easy upward paths) - the three ships & Nelson’s monument are worth a visit too!

Parked on the B6050 near Robin Hood Farm. Then walked along the path through Birchen Edge. There were a lot of climbers about today. Once I had got immediately to the west of the pillar, I ascended the slope, climbed through a gap in the cliff face, and walked along the path just behind the cliff up to the summit and the pillar.

This trig stands is in very fine company and close to a 3m gritstone column erected in 1810 in honour of Lord Nelson. The three outcrops of rock (behind the column) are named/chiseled Victory, Defiance and Royal Soverin (sic), which were three of his ships. A certain MR will be 18 this weekend and will be painting the town red. 2/2 visited today are for this young lady.

All intact with plastic cap. Nelson's column nearby which was erected in 1810. Early morning climbers also adjacent despite the damp conditions. Took the boggy route back to the car.

re-visit to log GR/FB. On my way back from logging East Derbyshire Trigs stopped off at the NT car park next to the Robin Hood (£1.50 for an hour) for a quick trip up to the Nelson Monument. A few climbers on the crags enjoying a glorious afternoon's sunshine. Monument , three ships & trig leisurely completed we were back in the car park before the ticket was up.

Parked at Curbar Gap to walk to trig, narrow path took us directly to it, nearby Three Ships Rocks and Nelson's Monument. Although a bit murky, views still pretty good, later visited Wellington's Monument then returned to car via Baslow Edge. All in all a very good days walk.

Out with my walking group - The Irregulars, LDWA - and our leader brought us directly passed this pillar. I have been here previously on several occasions but they all pre-date my finding this site. So the opportunity to log it now was just too good not to miss. Glorious sunny morning with tremendous views. In good condition although the original metal plug has long gone having been replaced by a plastic one. We used the path up from Robin Hood Inn and continued on to Bar Brook Bridge.

Excellent view and a lovely little spot. Not far from the 'Nelson' monument and the 'ships of the line' or 'three ships' boulders that sport the names of key ships from the Battle of Trafalger. Nice bit of history!
