Failed to find it on 11th, but having consulted 1:25,000 map in Leominster YHA, returned this morning and found. Cycled up pleasant road from East from Hope under Dinsmore, that crosses about 300 yards of grassy field before becoming tarred again and descending into Westhope.Followed tractor tracks through young barley. Pillar is in area of scrubby undergrowth to side of cultivated fields, and only visible when you've nearly reached it.

Tricky access - the way we did it, which involved a trespass as approached from W after parking on minor road just off A4110. OS1:25k showed a track leading east to base of the hill, but a couple of houses been built since, closing off any way onto the hill. No one in so we went for it, up a steeply wooded slope initially, then vertically up to crest out at top of the hill - some awkward b/w fences to cross. Trig is now in a delightful lightly wooded area where we whiled away 30 mins in the afternoon sun contemplating the bluebells - not looking forward to the return. Pillar in good condition; asphalt plug; 1 sight hole open. Views W to Black Mountains, N to Ludlow area, S and E obscured.

Hard frost up here today, sadly no views due to fog.Didnt see a soul but did get spooked by voices & gunshots coming back down! 2nd of the day.

We approached from the north west via a footpath which wasn't evident on the ground. Across a field to the wood then up through brambles etc to a corn field. Along edge of field and into next field (brackens and brambles) to find the trig. We both ended up very scratched (it is shorts weather after all). Tarmac plug.

Approached from the NW, which necessitated a very steep climb onto the common - then had trouble locating the rather overgrown pillar. It's all intact - plug with deeply indented letters. Much moss and just a few traces of paint. All sightholes closed. Some views from here on a good day but today was very murky.
