Construction of RAF Upavon began in 1912. After 81 years the RAF handed over the base to the army. Trenchard Lines is currently home to the Army Recruiting and Training Division. Where the water tower once stood is now a pump house, so electro-mechanical power triumphs over gravity! OS records this trig computed 1938 and destroyed Mar 1956. Viewed from Upavon's perimeter security fence alongside A342.
