Not too many trigs next to ex-ROC bunkers, I suspect. I was puzzled by the 3D-printed plastic cap, but now having read Wheresthatpenguin's log I know the story.

Came here to visit a new geocache then spotted the pillar, so took the details for logging on TPUK. Reading a past log, seems damage to the top was caused by a would-be thief. Views are good from up here and the old bunker fascinating, though didn't bother to venture down due to the amount of rubbish at the bottom (bunker entrance lid is missing).

Revisit to replace the stolen cap. Part of my program to replace all the missing caps / plugs within a 30-40 mile radius of where I live. Looking at the post history, between 2013 - 2014 the original cap was stolen and an attempt was also made to steal the spider as well, causing a lot of damage to the top of the pillar, especially around the spider. Pillar looks a bit better with the new cap I have put on, but it really needs a full repair carried out to the top. Hence, I will probably carry out another revisit in the future and carry out the repair myself with some grey mortar, and a coat of white paint

Parked in the car park to the Apedale Country Park, which is just off Blackbank Road. Crossed the road and took the public right of way up to the pillar. Is on top of a knoll - an old ROC Bunker with a very dilapidated entrance hatch.

Another one of the trigs threading the hills above Newcastle. Remember as a kid seeing this distant flank getting churned by the massive coal mine and feeling cynical about how well it would recover - skylarks and lapwings recorded - well done to the people who made it happen. Afterwards oatcake shopping followed by a foray into Hanley and the rather marvellous display of (guess what) pottery in the museum. Well worth the trip, it may not be doing so well but it always amazes me how nice and friendly everyone is compared to bigger cities.

Looking out to the Wedgwood monument and Mow Cop - nice hail/rain storm brewing over in Cheshire.
Keele woods and the miner commemorating the history of the mine.
Bunker cover now removed - could do with being repaired I reckon.

Walked from Silverdale via some caches and it's a very convoluted walk through the old mine area. Much easier to drive up. Nice view on a clear day.

tried the steps as below but no way through the weeds, there is a path just before the steps if your coming from the dead end road which gives access with just a bit of a fight through the weeds.

On bank at end of dead end road.This used to be the main road down into Knutton up until ten years ago when a new road was built and open cast mine landscaped into Apedale Country Park.Visited several times in the past.Revisited to photograph.

An easy-access pillar, up some steps off a dead-end lane. Original plug with deeply-indented letters. Traces of white paint on top surface. Some small cracks on top surface but condition generally OK. E sighthole open, others closed. Good views N/E over Stoke. Shame about the pylon close by........

Joined at the end of the road by two blokes looking at the open cast site another nice easy trip away from the car and back. Best urban views yet but worth no more than a 6 Trig in good shape

My map shows it beside the B road to Alsagers Bank, but now that road has moved because of opencast mining. Its still beside the road, but at the end of it. The pillar is on top of a nuclear obsevation bunker, overlooking the old mine workings. Its painted a light grey in parts.
