Parked on the Kebs rd, small layby at the County boundary post. Starting at the road bridge over the stream which had a mere trickle of water in it. Walked up a reasonable footpath to the pillar. The moor really dry and the peat very dusty. Pillar has foundation exposed on south side. Looks like maybe an attempt in the past to remove spider? Plug removed and filled, otherwise all metal work intact. Nice coat of pretty recent white paint. Excellent visibility on a glorious summers day. Picked out a number of pillars inc Lad law trig to the North through the bins. - which looks like it too has been recently upgraded to white.

Hoof Stones Height. Revisited in Aug 2006 and again 31 May 2010 and on al occasions we never saw another soul - wonderful. The views are OK but the surrounding area is very eroded/boggy. There's a chunk missing out of one of the top corners and the erosion is beginning to isolate it (see the 'from the west' photo. Another hill with more than just the OS Permitted Path to the trig although it's in a large area of access land now. Right on the Lanky/Yorky border NNW of Todmorden. Part of a lenghty hike from Toddy to Hebden. No cars, on foot.

A smallish chunk out out of one corner at the top of the trig, plastic plug; base exposed. Tracks from the trail bikes still evident but I don't think they are recent. A trudge over from Widdop (but the boundary fence offered a reliable guide in low cloud). The cloud finally lifted to give views of Emley Moor, Stoodley Pike, Pendle and across Burnley towards Accrington. On reaching the road further west, I met a warden who was on the look-out for the trail-bikers.

its feb 2004 now and the dirt bike tracks are still 6inch deep in the peat...I'm not going to blank out what I think- they're TWATS. I suspected the tracks were done by motorbikes when I was up here, but I guess that confirms it ye caterpillars

Here we are on the middle of a boggy moor in the nesting season at the end of a permissive footpath and there they are-idiots on trail bikes tearing across the open moor and turning the area around the Trig into one big swamp! No lads,do not bother about the rare birds nor the chance is that permission for the pp could be withdrawn just carry on there is another moor across the valley where we knocked that 70 year old gamekeeper down. You load of -------------!!!!

Easter Sunday. There has been a long dry spell (very common on the Lancashire/Yorkshire border). There are a number of fires on the moors. As I arrive at the trig, I realise the peat under my feet is gently smouldering. Excellent views. An easy stroll from the Long Causeway.

Circular walk from Hurstwood, returning via Long Causeway. Ground semi frozen so reasonably easy going.
