Second attempt at this one. Only covered by a thin layer of soil and a thick pile of frozen leaves. Watch you don't put your foot in it.

3rd attempt to find it, succeeded this time as currently exposed in base of its deep pit, just needed a quick clean-up. On a round walk from Sedbergh: out along the valley floor, back along High Dales Way.

1" bolt in concrete block. Easy find due to a pronounced depression in the verge next to the bench seat. Enlarged the hole but back-filled it after photography. With Roger Templeman.

We'd tried to find this a couple of years ago, but didn't have any digging equipment so failed to unearth it. After a morning climbing Aye Gill Pike we came back for another go armed to the teeth with hardware. No trouble locating it this time, thought we did have to dig it out a bit.

Bagged as YSM013 Dent. Very deep hole, left hand side of bench facing wall, needed to clear out some mud to expose the block.

Had a good root around for this one and then discovered a deep hole - so deep I thought it was a rabbit hole! The hole had collapsed a bit but the concrete was visible. A bit of widening soon found the bolt.

From previous photos easy to locate. Started to dig and uncovered big lumps of tarmac. I thought that the block was missing due to some building work. Fortunatly under the tarmac was the bolt. Placed block of tarmac ovr bolt before reburying.

Turned up armed with OS sketch and photo so it should have been easy......maybe the length of the grass was a factor - had a good poke about and found quite a few stones but no block

Yorkshire. Dent is a lovely village and Dentdale, a lovely valley. This is one of the better locations for a surface block.

Took a break from climbing hills to visit this one and glad I did as I have never seen Dent village which is a real treat. Found the tarmac lump straight away but there was still a coulpe of inches earth under that to get to the bolt. Tried to wash it by poring water over it but it just sat there for ages making a mud pie. Eventually manages to take a picture before heading for the hills again.

It's worth noting that things have changed here alittle since the OS photo/sketch. The Dent village signpost and the position of the bench are different and this threw me for a bit. Found the lump of tarmac and ignored it - then decided that's where the block should be and fortunately decided to investigate further!! A lovely spot in Dentdale on the edge of this iconic village with its famous station [albeit 4 miles away!]

Stud is still there under the piece of tarmac. Found it using measurements from OS plan. Photographed, checked by GPS, and tarmac replaced. (Also put the grass and nettles back to keep it hidden)

The photo in the OS passive station database shows a marker line on the road - its still there although fading. The surface block is about 6" down, buried under a loose chunk of tarmac. Left as found.
