Grade II listed tower built for Victoria's Diamond Jubilee (as opposed to the public library which was the other option). OS lists a plethora of components: Turret Centre and Lightning Conductor both good; Rivet not investigated; Bolt destroyed Aug 1959.

My wife, Valerie, used to come up here in the early Eighties when she was at Huddersfield Poly as it was then. At that time there was a pub up here which apparently was very popular with students. Lots of history attached to this place , from being an Iron age fort to its Victorian monument. I loved the fact that a brass band played at the top of the tower on its opening day, but because it was very windy, no one could hear them.
