A slight diversion on a charity walk recce. Pleasant spot and pillar condition as previously described. National Trust have the area fenced off with cattle grazing, including a very large intimidating bull that blocked my intended path. I chose a different way.

Parking on wide roadside grass verge (TQ 3722 1309). Took RoW leading steeply up tp meet the SDW, then on tracks E to the trig. Pillar sits on open downland at edge of woodland. Some chipping to top edges; top cap missing, asphalt plug; rear sight hole open.

Seventh trig, third day of my SDW stroll. Now this trig is 400m E of the way, and I had the impression most of the trail walkers stuck to the trail and locals in the know came up to this hill as the views were tremendous. Got talking to a lady who was a local and she came up regularly to soak up the feel of the place. A great place. Still hot.

A bit of a slog getting up the hill to the trig but found where it should be safe and sound. Activated trig on Worked All Britain amateur radio net. Had quite a few sporty types and dog walkers come up to us and ask what all the aerials and stuff were for. Lovely warm evening. Summer is on the way. (maybe).

On a long walk from Lewes, down through Kingston along Juggs road to meet the South Downs Way, then up to Balmer Huff, Blackcap and Mount Harry (with a few detours for geocaches) and back into Lewes. Very tired now, but still have a long walk back into Lewes to go. Still, it was a beautiful evening.

Stiff pull up on to Downs from layby to N - wet slippery chalk track. TP stands well near edge of escarpement and stand of trees planted 1953. Tarmac plug. A day of shades of grey so minimal views - when this looks like it should be a good viewpoint.

Located on the South Downs next to 'Blackcap', this trig offers great views of the South Downs an area of outstanding natural beauty and the countryside towards the North Downs. In great condition despite the central cap having been filled in.

Beautiful walk along South Downs Way from Ditchling Beacon. 'Blackcap' itself is National Trust land and you can roam anywhere on this particular section. Loads of wildlife. Great views in all directions.
