The pillar stands on top of a gorse cloaked hill. It is situated on the edge of Winfrith Heath to the west of Wareham. The easiest walk to the trig is by means of the concrete track from the end of the dual carriageway on Gatemore Road to the west. The pillar is in fine condition; it was once painted white, it has FB S6004 but lacks a cap or plug. The trig overlooks the flat Winfrith Heath to the north and west. Wooded hills are on the sky line to the north and Chaldon Down rises up to the south. The Hardy Monument could be seen in the far distance to the west. Some of the buildings of the former nuclear power station and of the nearby military camp could be seen scattered through the plantations to the northeast.
