Soooo hot! Parked in main car park to the South West for what in reality is an easy walk across the moorland towards the masts (which you can't miss). However at the end of a very hot day this felt like an expedition.

Delighted with this Trig. As stated, it is easy to find thanks to the 2 masts. There is a small wall shaped like an X and even a small bench next to the pillar. Great views and part of a lovely area to walk in (Crompton Moor).

2/8 I'm glad I took this in as an 'extra' for trig for today. The weather warming up to what turned out to be the warmest March since 1968. Parked in the visitor carpark and walked up, a steepish hill, foolishly taking a short cut over very tussocky grass which was hard work and painful on the shins. Ended up being a long cut. Aimed for the comms towers at the top and was rewarded with 360 deg views.Three local lads on mountain bikes were there too, enjoying the space. M62 was visible in the distance, Manchester was beginning to be obscured by haze. On the way down found out coal was scraped and dug out from bell pits which covered the area, it must have been a slog taking it down to the nearby mills and factories. On to Slack Hall.

I walked over on the Crompton Circuit from Grains Bar. The two masts are a give away to the location of the pillar, which appears to be sitting rather smug. A fair bit of snow up here and lots of people on the lower slopes (near Brushes car park). I can see why it is popular area. Gifted to parents who have to home school, work and entertain the little blighters at the weekend.

bench and windshelter next to white trig, part of OSGB network, next to but outside of aerial enclosure. Very aggressive signs (public space restriction area- alcohol, camping and dog fouling etc -criminal offences- why?) but I did not appear to be in danger of breaking any by walking there. Windy cold day.

Followed the path underneath the pylons from the layby to the north, picked up the access track and followed it around to the pebbly Trig which sits on a moorland top- close to a crumbling wind shelter and a small wooden bench-the trig is in good condition with a filled cap -no open sight holes- the view is slightly blocked by comms masts and buildings

HISTORY: This monument to map making was built in the spring of 1940. The exact date and cost are not on record. During 1945, this triangulation station was computed during the reconnaissance of Secondary Block SD80 (Manchester) as secondary triangulation station SD80/7. In September 1958 the bench mark on this pillar was valued for height to first class precision, tertiary levelling standards. The final pre-GPS maintenance by the OS was in October 1979. This marker continues to be maintained by the OS as a GPS passive station. SITE VISIT: Moorland top in mapped access land on extensive network of nature trails. Pillar in good condition, GPS plate affixed. Spider centre plugged with asphalt. Flush bracket faces WNW, compass measurement 282°. Vented through sight hole on FB face. Potential for 360° panoramic view but the fog greyed that out at the time of visit. Part of a 24 trig stint around the northern outskirts of Manchester.

Quick rip up this hill at dusk after work in the area. Came up via the waterfall at Crompton Fold to the west along the mapped paths. Returned down a similar-ish route! Lovely views across Rochdale at night. FB faces west-ish with no sightholes open. Cap missing but asphalt plug present. Trig in good condition. OS plaque fitted on west-ish face.

Parked on the wideish verge to the East and walked up the very clear path. I chose to go part way round the top before heading up, but came down the fading path directly. It is a real shame this is marred by two large ariels, because without them it would be a fantastic spot. Even with them the views away are amazing.

Asphalt plug. Unusually, one broken hook. Public. Access Land. Vast expanse of rough grass & heather, providing great recreation for local urban population. Terrific hill, whose summit masts detract little from the scene & do not interfere with the trigpoint.

Visited this one whilst out on a walk that also called at Tandle Hill, Hey Farm and Birshaw. Pillar surrounded by a variety of communication masts but easily accessible on track going through them. Pillar has plaque showin that it was included in the satellite positioning programme. Excellent views of the surrounding countryside.

A brief family stroll from the B+B on the Denshaw side, where we were staying to celebrate my parents' Diamond Wedding. We could have chosen a better TP for such a milestone but it was a lovely evening and it was nearby. Pity we had lost the clue for the cache at the foot of the hill !

Sit was only visited whilst I was at work on the radio towers. This hill has three on it. I have also been up here before whilst staying at a local hotel. The views from this hill are very impressive out across the north of Manchester and on into Lancaster. Also great views down the Pennines to the east. The hill also supports a wind shelter.

I must have chosen the coldest, windiest day to visit this trig. I could hardly stand up never mind hold my camera steady. The all round views are fantastic and far reaching. I saw the sun going down over Manchester. Even though its not a particularly scenic area and everything is dominated by masts and pylons it is still very much worth a visit.
