A muddy walk up from Ellick Farm, and boggy on the final slope, but the pillar stands dry on its stone-covered mound. Only one passing horse rider for company on this rather grey day. Views were distant in all directions but not clear enough for decent photos.

Walked up from parking spot for Burrington Ham. Followed the Bridle Way then the footpath. Gentle stroll really but interesting for the fact that you start on Triassic Dolomitic Conglomerate containing fragments of the underlying Carboniferous Limestone and Devonian Sandstone & Conglomerate. Walking up the bridle path you cross steeply bedded limestone until finally, just before the gate, you pass onto the Devonian sandstones. The pillar is located on a cairn of sandstones and allows for fantastic views all around. The Severn Estuary is obvious along with both bridges, Weston super Mare, Clevedon, the hills of south & central Wales, Quantocks, Exmoor & Dartmoor. The Cotwolds are visible too. An excellent top.

A bracing climb from Burrington Combe, through the gorse up to the pillar. I had a couple of nice chats with people on the way, a fellow walker and a considerate mountain biker. The pillar itself is in good nick, sitting atop a stone cairn like mound and the views today were fabulous. The sun shone and buzzards swooped above my head.I can't ask for more.
