In the field of a very angry farmer, we walked up the farm track off the Limestone way from the south, approached by farmer in tractor (whos field trig is in). Someone had knocked his wall down trying to get to the trig presumably and had let his beasts out. Not a happy chap. He ushered us on with a ''suppose you best look whilst you are here" and we came back down the path to the west onto Bonsallimoor Lane. Trig covered with manure could hardly make out the flush bracket.

Picked up very overgrow track heading East away from the Pillar back towards the point it meets the Limestone way. returned back to Winster using the Limestone way route and secured a cup of tea at the local shop before climbing back up to Stanton I.T Peak.

This wasn't on my war room map for 2012 but it's in the National Park so should have been. And besides, I had forgotten my print out of Aleck Low. Confusing. Parked on the unfenced road I thought may have been a private road to Moor Farm and then followed the footpath up - until I lost it. After a bit of wandering I spotted the pillar, and then where the footpath crosses a wall. Once over it's an uphill trespass until you find a weak point to scale the wall again to gain the trig point.

Good trig, fairly close to footpaths and no real danger. The Beans and Bacon mines (yes, that really is their name!) have a few access/vent holes around but all are covered and/or overgrown. Quite nice views. Got this one after two nearly attempts which I chickened out of because of roaming bull.

Along Limestone Way from Winster to Blakelow Lane. Was discouraged from taking the track due West at SK262593 by presence of caravan in opposite field. Instead continued due South then SW along Blakelow Lane to pick up public footpath at SK259586. Proceeded uphill across fields where I was charged by a herd of cows. Thankfully I'd kept to the perimeter of the field so holding my hands aloft followed by a quick hop over the low wall and barbed wire I made my escape. Pillar easily found in pasture on summit. Views OK without being spectacular. Heading over to Oaker Hill now I've calmed down !!

In a field and on private land but visble and quite easily accessible. We used the farmers track from the east, Negotiated three gates and just has a final gate and wall to climg to reach the pillar. The pillar is in good condition with and indented lettering plug. Views reasonable but there are better in this area. [Second visit on 29 January 2012 with Carole. Still in good condition.]

I did this with bike : walls consequently a nuisance. I guess the fp on the south side is least trespassy. I left the trig towards south - downhill throught the disused mine workings, only the wall at the edge of the field containing the trig to climb. there is a cleft in the hillside between trig and fp- with a steel beam above, where there is an open cave / mine. The trig is made with local aggregate - you can see fossilised clam like shell in the limestone
