We approached from the Cumbrian side, parking up under the Dent Head viaduct. Walked down the road and joined the Blea Moor FP opposite the first cottage in Cowgill. A very nice walk up before reaching the railway just as it entered the tunnel. Then a climb following the path of the tunnel, past air shaft 3 and departing the FP about 50 yards short of the fence at the Cumbrian / North Yorkshire county boundary. Along a low ridge for about 400 yards, then turned right to cross the fence into NY. From there a simple path to the brilliantly white painted pillar. This must be one of the best TP’s in England, with great views all around including most of the Dales Marilyns. Beer in the George & Dragon in Dent afterwards.

At SD770832 a fence is met which guides you towards the pillar. I was expecting a drab moor, but towards the summit Blea Moor displays some beautiful limestone outcrops and as the white painted pillar is reached a superb view of Ribblehead viaduct appears framed by the massif of Ingleborough. This is a lovely trigpoint where you can stand alone in the midst of the Yorkshire Dales and take in the views. A splendid last trig of 4 on this holiday, great weather and at last some sense of peace and normality amidst the madness of 2020.

Branched off half right towards the tunnel spoil heaps and stood next to an air shaft as a train passed underneath. Found the pillar OK but on a gloomy day I couldn't get a repeat of srichy20's superb photo of the viaduct below Ingleborough's profile. Headed down east across wet ground to the Ribble Way and finished off with a visit to Thorns Gill.George fell waist deep into a bog and then left his rucksack by the car as we drove off. White wash starting to peel off. Followed walk from Country Walking magazine which was badly written and route was overprinted wrong on Map !! Followed fence, leaving path between Ribblehead and Signal Box. Yesterdays persistant rain made route rater wet underfoot, but today was clear and views over Howgills were brilliant

On the sweep of this section of the Fellsman Hike. A glorious evening with brilliant sunshine. The pillar was freshly painted today by the guys manning the Blea Moor checkpoint. They manned this check point last year and decided then that the pillar needed a new coat of paint - so 12 months later they did it! As a result it could be seen sparkling in the evening sunshine from as far away as the Craven Way on Duncan Sike Head. Despite this two hikers managed to miss it and 'lose themselves' on the lower slopes of Blea Moor!

I dont usually re-log a trig but today was the most wonderful of views. Its an innocuous hill plateau which you need to traverse from the rocks to the north to the trig (or vice versa of course) to get, well if there are better views in Yorkshire Id be grateful if someone would let me know. Yorkshirenige has it spot on or see my original entry. Today was winter wonderland on a bright sunny day with everywhere under snow. Was a bit of a beggar to get to the plateau top as the snow occasionally came over the knee in places - but knowing what I was going to get made the effort incredibley worthwhile. NCOF!
