A pristine, well manicured pillar. Somebody is looking after this trig. For such a lonely location it maintains the conventional whitewash look. Excellent views of Ingleborough and Whenrnside. Our second of 2 trigs today.Taking the train from Ribbleshead and walking from Dent allowed us to reach Gt Knoutberry Hill, our first pillar and this Blea Moor our second of the day. After 10miles and 2000 foot ascent the Station Inn is a welcome sight for a drink and meal. Highly recommend the whole experience.

Did this walk with my friend George. who used to be a vet in these parts some 40 years ago; so there was plenty of Herriot style stories as we left Ribblehead on the 3 Peaks route. Branched off half right towards the tunnel spoil heaps and stood next to an air shaft as a train passed underneath. Found the pillar OK but on a gloomy day I couldn't get a repeat of srichy20's superb photo of the viaduct below Ingleborough's profile. Headed down east across wet ground to the Ribble Way and finished off with a visit to Thorns Gill.George fell waist deep into a bog and then left his rucksack by the car as we drove off. Local knowledge isn't everything.

Visited while photographing trains on the S&C.Walked up the path past Blea Moor signalbox and via the airshafts to look down into a sunlit Dentdale.I knew the trig was off to the left on the way back so followed the fenceline up into the cloud which had come down.Once I had started to descend again I retreated slightly and was able to make out some rocks away from the fence to act as a marker. From there I was lucky enough to see the trig in the distance. Absolutely no view apart from my rock marker to the way back down.

Superb views today which changed rapidly over the 10 minutes I was at the trig - watched a temperature inversion moving through the valley and gathering at the foot of Ingleborough, before eventually swamping the summit. Don;t be tempted to climb up from the path direct to the trig its very wet and uneven - stick to the path until the fence line then follow the fence until you see a track heading roughly south west towards the trig

Fantastic, the best views of the 3 Peaks in the area. Slight detour from the ROW to the west is well worth the visit when the weathers good (as it certainly was today). Unfortunately ted & langden mist (sic) the show (but I've been there/done that - Great Shunner Fell immediately springs to mind)! And again on 29/07/2007 in equally as good weather - I can only reiterate that the views from trig and the crags to the north are wonderful. No cars, on foot!

A "game" using your GPS receiver. Find a remote trig on a featureless moor, enter a grid reference using your map reading skills rather than the actual reference, and try to find the trig on a day when visibility is 25 yards! Hence the score of zero, not much to see in a radius of 25 yards (see photo)!
