a very fine viewpoint. having done a 10 mile Baugh Fell circuit in the morning i'd parked up in Croglin and followed the estate tracks to within 30 yards of the trig. signs say no public right of way - open access.....? trigs in good condition. continued along the tracks way out east before following walls and fences to tom smiths stone.

Barely stopped as I went for a run over the fell with my brother. The shooting syndicate that operates up there still doesn't really like the concept of access land. I've grown up romping all over those fells and it's generally okay ignoring the no access signs - they're just to deter those who don't know better!

Parked on the road north of Croglin and walked in on the track via Plantation Nook, then on the grouse shooting track up the Access Land to the trig. A bit under 2 hrs for the round trip. No-one else out and about, but fresh walking-boot prints going up the track (though not down) so someone else has been this way recently... looked a bit fresh to be Ted's prints, but who knows... We walk in the steps of the Greats.
