Caught a bus to West Mersea then walked north along the centre of the island via footpaths and minor roads. A baking hot day so It was quite a push to find it in time to beat the incoming tide. Nevertheless it was there but needed to aid of that strange looking tree as a reference point. Near impossible to spot from the road so had to nip quickly field side (as there was a tractor working nearby) to obtain pictures.

Looks like some recent damage to the top of this trig - possibly as a result of hedge cutting operations. The pillar is roadside at the high point of Mersea Island. Partially located in a ditch, it's not hard to access. Top cap has been lost and there is no plug; rear sight hole open, other three undetermined as below ground level now. It has a nice pink tinge to it but has 2 of its top corners broken away. There are limited views.

Somewhat overgrown since the - Tiddles - pictures of 5 years ago and not a Trig you would make a special journey for. Despite the area looking very quiet on the O/S map the road is busy with fast moving traffic and no parking opportunities. This was a quick bagging running along the edge of the road and jumping into the hedgerow consuming the Trig. What I could see of the Trig all seems intact other than the Spider screwcap being missing. The O/S website lists the computing year as 1948 and the height a/s/l as 21.488 metres (70.50 feet).
