Parked at NZ004047 and followed the track / ROW / quad tracks up to the top of the moor. Once on top of the flat made my way through the short heather to the trig. Returned the same way(ish).

Driving from the Tan Hill Inn to Barnard Castle. Stopped on roadside approaching Stang Forest (which looks a mess) but wasn't properly dressed to walk across the moor, so only observed from a distance. Good views all round.

Parked on the Stang road at the first FP from Langthwaite. A short climb of about 150m ascent onto the moor top, then half a mile or so through heather and the occasional boggy bit to the pillar. TP is guarded by a mannequin dressed in apparent anti-Nuclear overalls.

Nicely exposed moorland pillar, a short but tough walk from the Stang Road. Missing centre plug, and base is exposed mainly due to dampness of immediate surrounding area, but otherwise in good condition. Extensive views of surrounding moorland and over towards Barnard Castle. 2 Pillars left in Swaledale/Arkengarthdale

From Stang House, plenty of roadside parking. Direct line across grass/heather moorland. Pillar has no cap/plug; LHS sight hole sealed, other 3 open. Bleak panoranic views.

On the Fags and Booze Circular approached from Hoove Trig via Shaw Side , Stang House and Windegg Lead Level finally across the grouse moor to the Trig which is in good condition with an open cap and three open sight holes returned north across the moor to the car park at Strang Top

Parked by Stang Mine and ascended through Windegg Lead Level and descended via Alcock Hush (watch for rabbits, especially black ones). Interesting industrial history site. Weather, cloudy, showers, good visibility.

Booze Moor Peat Moor Hill would be a more apt name.

From Stang Top where the Trig can be seen about one and a half miles due south, its a pathless slog over Grouse Moor but not too boggy on a crisp frosty morning, we pass some well made stone grouse butts along the way, Trig located on Peat Moor Hill it feels quite remote a nice place to take a break before the return slog.

No views today because of low cloud, walked 10 mile circular walk today visiting two other trig points ! First Newsham Moor then this one and finally Hoove Faggergill.

Parked at county boundary signs could see trig clearly from car,bog trot this but the moor was very dry.Trig in vgc no plug sunny views.

HISTORY: Pillar completed around April 1948, exact date and cost not on record. Computed as tertiary triangulation station NZ42/T6 in 1948. Levelled for height also in 1948. Last maintained by the OS in November 1980. SITE VISIT: Approached from north. Public parking off NW side of public road by County boundary at NZ018067. Near straight line to summit although exact route tended to be dictated by worn vehicle tracks. Open grouse moor. Pillar in good condition. Spider centre open. Flush bracket faces SSW, ~212°. Vented through three sight holes NW plugged, innards blocked with debris. 360° open outlook.

The second of my "Booze and Fags" short circular walk. No path to speak of, either into or out of the trig, but heather isn't too bad and not too boggy at this time of year. Approached through the quarry and exited by Stang Side

long dull slog across wet moorland, parked at county boundary...views not as good as expected, lots of curlew and golden plover...would have been better had i not sat on an ants nest by the pillar!

Plug missing, 3 sighting-holes open. Tussocky heather. Low cloud and light drizzle (could have been worse). Trig maybe not at highest point. Calver Hill, approx 3 miles S, has a trig symbol shown on some OS maps - visited on same day and checked for surface markers but nothing found.
