Pleasant walk up from large car park in West Stoke, constructed for the Kingley Vale visitors. Pillar seems to be first marked as 'slightly damaged' in 2004 due to the missing cap, if this be a criterion for thus marking pillars then majority of those marked 'good' should be reclassified. As said, no cap also no plug; 1 sight hole open. Pillar has a patina of fine/minor cracks over much of it, which may be a better reason to classify it other than 'good'. In woodland, so no views, but a lovely peaceful spot - ideal for lunch. The 25th and final trig on our 3-day West sussex mini-exped, off home to Wiltshire next.

The final trig point of the first day of my expedition. I left my car in the car park north-west of the pillar and hiked in. From that direction itís quite a gentle if somewhat lengthy climb up to the summit. The woodland around the pillar has been cleared so itís in full view of the bridleway but there are still no views to speak of there. There is a good view to the west from SU 824 121, where the footpath crosses the Monarchís Way. The pillar is in good condition apart from the missing centre plug. There are some very impressive old Yew trees on the hill that obviously pre-date Forestry Commissionís interference... sorry, protection. Nice photo by ĎhussyhillíÖ you donít see a pair like that on a trig point very often!

A few cracks in the trig, looks like it was once painted, and looks like some repairs were done to it at some point. No longer is it hidden away in a forest as the surrounding area has all been cut down. Fairly steep ascent, no views from here but great views 2 mins walk from trig over the valley and all across the south coast.
