First of 5 trigs cycling from Sheffield, most I've ever done in a day. Saw trig from lane at open gate, but accessed it through quarry so as to limit crossing field, having asked permission from Steve and Paul, owners/stoneworkers. Steve actually saw the trig being used years ago. Quarry disused but had old machinery lying around, stone was upper carboniferous sandstone, very fine grained I was told, and looked good when cut. Trig easily spotted, plug missing though. Loads of flies on the trig top. Low lying views.

Located footpath sign and followed on bike as coincides with farm access. For 2nd time today my timing was good with crop harvested and access across stubble. Still white but covered in large patches of orange lichen.

The closest existing trigpoint to my previous home,in Hemsworth. We started off through centre of of Hemsworth, cutting across the 'Turkey Farms' and emerging in Ackworth. Strolled round into the hamlet of Hessle, then up the steep public footpath through a horse field. Trig was on the corner of a farmer's field... had to trespass slightly to get right up to it, but skirted the edge of the private field so as not to damage the crops. Really warm day for March... extensive low level views in most directions. A fairly enjoyable walk, marred by occasional signs of fly-tipping on some of the local lanes.

Easily accessible after harvest time if you are prepared to field trespass and turn a blind eye to private property notice. Quite visible being on the outside of a field corner. I parked on the local road to the north near Hessle Hall and used the footpath up the hill. Once passed the farm buildings turn into the field through an open gateway and go straight across to the pillar. The oil seed rape had recently been harvested otherwise it would have meant going round the field edge. Pillar in good condition except that the plug is now missing leaving the interior open to the elements. A somewhat enclosed view point considering that it is the local high point.
