An easy diversion off the A1, I memorised map to locate trig but looked on wrong side of quarry entrance for pillar. A guy from the quarry walked up to the gates to see what I was up to and showed me the way up to the pillar. We had a chat about minerals in different parts of the UK ( and Northern France ) and he told me that the limestone quarried here was used at York Minster. I noticed that there is a small car park outside the gates - opposite side of the entrance to the pillar. As we drove back up Warren Lane I noted that the pillar could be observed through the hedge. Quite extensive views from here.
