Driving down to Peterborough for the Beer Festival so stopped off at a few "A1ish" Trigs. Easy to find, just parked up in Quarry entrance, back a few yards along the road, up the short flight of steps and it's there in a nice clearing. It seems to have some love as it's painted a nice white and the space around it has been cleared of brambles etc.. I tried to have a look at the derelict brick shelter like building close by, but it was too overgrown to get in. Back into the car and onto the next one.

No cap. On a bank behind a row of hawthorn and ivy. Up six steps on the east side of the road through the gap and three metres to the left. Visited ten days back with garden loppers, secateurs trowel and wire brush. Lots of gardening work ensued to clear ivy and hawthorn from either side of the steps and the mass of hanging ivy at the top that was down to about three feet from the ground. More clearing around the trig + opening up the view to the road. Wire brushed and scraped all the trig plus scraped and dug down a further 3-4cm round the base of the trig to below the sight holes and removed some ivy and nettle root. All six steps cleared of earth and ivy. Today, after a further vigorous wire brushing it was ready for re-painting. It had had an initial white coat of paint and a pale grey coat of thicker paint at some layer stage, seemingly decades ago as most had flaked off. New white coat today.

After photos, we noticed that there is a gap in the hedge behind the pillar, with 'steps' cut into the embanked verge; from the road it became obvious that this is the alternative way to reach the pillar, perhaps when the quarry is open.

Hidden away behind the hedge with steps for access. Almost missed it after walking along the road. Tree cover probably makes it hard to get an accurate reading

Adjacent the road but very well hidden behind the hawthorn bushes. Access OK today but in summer (and in years to come) I'd imagine it'd be more problematic. The steps are vaguely visible in the centre of the photo (the trig is out of shot, left of the steps). Views, well, not a lot from the trig.
