Pillar in good condition; original cap missing, asphalt plug; all sight holes open. Views to N and W; S and E restricted by A31. Road noise very intrusive.

The pillar is sited in an area of grass and heather heathland; it has an asphalt plug and FB S2701; cattle and ponies were grazing nearby. It looks over an extensive area of flat heath and woodland plantations of the New Forest; the busy dual carriageway of the A31 is close by and some distant tops of Cranborne Chase and the Purbeck Hills can be seen. Parked off the minor road to the north for a pleasant walk through the conifer plantation of Milkham Inclosure and across the heath of Bratley Plain.
