I approached on bike via walking tracks from the North. There is also a car park at the crossroads about a kilometre North if you were driving. Either way it's a pleasant cycle or walk through scrubby heathland to the pillar. The area would feel quite remote were it not for a constant traffic drone from the nearby A31. Heather surrounding the Trig had not come into bloom when I visited, but I imagine it will look great come August.

Across New Forest from north east direction, parked at gate on south of road about 150 metres north of the underpass underneath the A31. Along woodland Forest track south west, parallel to the main road, constant traffic noise. After about a kilometre, opens out onto heathland. Pillar just visible to south west from edge of wood. Along paths, south then west. Well used tracks to pillar. Good views across the Forest. A31 roadside pull in would be hazardous unless it was very quiet. Unlikely. Pleasant walk anyway.
