The pillar stands near the sparsely hedged fence separating two grass fields on a small hill to the northeast of Chepstow. It has a metal cap with deep lettering and FB S6769. The fields were entered from the gate onto Bream Road to the south of the trig. The wooded hills of the Forest of Dean can be seen to the north and The Cotswold Edge could just be seen in mist and cloud in the distance to the east.

We accessed this laboriously by following the Gloucestershire Way from the west and then walking down tractor tracks through the uncut wheat back to the trig. Our 1997 OL14 map gives the impression that it is in the field to the west of the hedgeline, whereas it is in the hedgeline on the east side (FB facing south) Far easier to access it from the road via the open gateway (the way we returned).
