Parked at the north end of the old footpath. Climbed the banking to take a pic. Bank's group are reinstating the top soil in this pit now so maybe access to the area is not to far in the future.

Revisit: i did not try to reach the GR but this pillar can be assumed to be destroyed given the size of the hole where the pillar used to be. Its a Banks pit and a query with their site office may reveal if this is lost or (hopefully) just relocated somewhere to the perifery.

Easy one to find. I parked on the grass in the entrance road to Milkhope Farmshop. Early on a sunday morning so no traffic. Trig 5 minute walk along footpath. A bit squelshy in parts due to the amount of rain recently. I should have had my wellies on!

Start of footpath from road opposite the milkhope centre I think open cast mining is going on in the area. Hence the red flag.

Taken on a 30 mile bike ride with Brunton Bridge and Middle Brunton. I have often looked at it on the skyline from the car on my way to work. How inconvenient that the footpath entry isn't marked on that side of the road ! I can recommend the cafe in the Milkhope Centre, entrance just up the road. Feet wet through plodging across the fields to the TP were not improved by torrential rain for the last half hour's ride home !

Visited to record FB number. HISTORY: Pillar completed 30th May 1946 costing 6.19s.0d. Computed as secondary triangulation station NZ29/29 within the Newcastle Block during 1947, refixed as same in 1984. Levelled for height in 1965. Last maintained by the OS in August 1980. SITE VISIT: On the eastern edge of field. Pillar in good condition. Spider retained OS centre plug. FB faces eastwards into the boundary fence. Vented through south sight hole. Glad to have bagged this when I did, having seen that this countryside has since been destroyed in the favour of the profits of commerce - and brown envelopes.
