Tricky one to locate, found that with the signal and electric pole aligned precisely I was about 1m out, got there in the end. Left it exposed.

(430) Another buried block that I failed to locate. Roadside rivet gone, and the road looks to have been resurfaced, so no hole either. Time to invest in a metal detector, I think... REVISIT 14.8.18 Back in the area, so gave this one another try. Found in about 5 minutes. Not too much soil covering it, but still a decent amount. The takeaway carton was buried along with the block! Large bolt.

3rd attempt. Found it in less than one minute. Takeaway carton still on top of it, left it to assist the next bagger.

Good directions CJO. Found block immediately, bolt took some digging. 1.5" bolt? Seems unusual size. Was a takeaway carton on top which I left there partially buried, may blow away though. ..

Found almost immediatly. The key is to line up the train signal with the wooden electrical pole, not the big metal pylon. The divit still exists in the road from were the previous pipe nail used to be. 1.1m from road edge and 22.8m from no footway sign.

We had to find it without the help of the roadside nail, as there isnt a roadside nail anymore, no yellow paint on the road either. It took us a good half an hour poking around in the grass verge before we found it, Graeme with his screwdriver and me with the long metal spike on the end of my umbrella ( a la Nicholas Crane, lol). Trigbagger Junior was a lot of help (not) and stayed in the car until we had found it. For a quiet country lane there was a hell of a lot of passing traffic, god knows what they all thought we were doing. Anyway, this was my first surface block. Would it be cheating if I bought a metal detector before bagging any more? Lol. After locating it we had a look for the roadside rivet and there is a hole there where it used to be, it was packed with grit and dirt though. We dug it out to aid anyone who visits soon, however it will probably fill up again before too long. This is probably the closest surface block to home, only 6/7 miles away. Dont know why we havent bagged it before now.

First surface block!!This was quite hard to find as the last time it was found was two years ago and now there is a lot of vegetation. We started with the gps but to no avail. So now we had to switch tactics and luckily I had one of my Snap-on screwdrivers in the car to use as a prodder as I was prodding around the verge it brought back memories of prodding around for landmines whilst serving in the army and after 30 mins i struck something hard "BINGO" Happy days!!!

Typical of its kind. Wouldn't have found it without the roadside nail.

No sign of a stripe of paint on the road, but the rivet (now damaged) helped me find the block. Some yellow paint was seen on the block, around the bolt.

A rivet and yellow stripe at roadside make it easy to find.
