Wonderful historic building this, and loved the King Robert The Bruce carving in stone all around the top of the tower. Pity it was closed for the winter; I think I was one day too late for visiting. Will return next summer. In the meantime we spent some time wandering around the splendid Pittencrieff Park. Had that old folk ballad running through my head: 'Sir Patrick Spens' with its opening lines: 'The king sits in Dunfermline Toune drinking all the blude-red wine'. Very enjoyable visit to the old town.
