I walked up from the housing estate below but the footpath alongside the B4363 was overgrown, forcing me out into the road in a couple of places. Then the footpath changes side on a bend causing you to need to cross the road again to pick up the PROW. Finally a rather brambly push through to the pillar to be rewarded with a good view of Bridgnorth. As others have noted, the pillar is cracked, the plug is missing and a fire has been set against the pillar.

The pillar stands near the edge of a small sandstone cliff to the east of Bridgnorth. It was reached from the housing estate on the lower slopes of the hillside to the south of the cliff. My approach included walking alongside the fenced off Hermitage Caves set into the side of the cliff. The pillar has a noticeable crack at the height of the sight holes and flush bracket. Its spider lacks a cap or plug. It has FB S1931. Visibility was rather poor today but there was a view over the town to the misty wooded hills beyond.

On a small grassy terrace out of the sweet chestnuts above some of Bridgnorth's sandstone caves. Quite a lot of white paint, and the tribracket has also been painted white. The plug is missing but a large candle has been wedged into the hole!! A fire has also been recently started by the NE face, and on this face there is some blue graffiti. All sightholes are open. Lovely views over Bridgnorth to the west; to Clee Hills SW; and the Wrekin NW. No east views due to woodland. Easy acces via footpath off the main Bridgnorth - Wolverhampton road.
