Good parking at the start of the Tennyson trail in the village of Calbourne. Up the track into field and up the field to the woods, going straight to the top. Take signpost BS8, limestone down. When out of woods ,left up a grass track to trig standing on a large plinth. No views , the mist came down.

Walked up Tennyson Trail and onto path by noticeboard. Easy find so long as you stay on path until side path goes off to right. Cutting corner will only result in desperate struggles through brambles!

Walked from the car park to the east of Mottistone Down. South east uphill along the Tennyson Trail with views opening out to the south west. After about three quarters of a mile path levels out, turned north at a path just before the water board compound. After fifty metres ignore first track to west. After another fifty metres bear left , north west at the fork. A helpful map board shows paths through the woods. However, it doesn’t indicate ‘You are here’. But it does show the Trig Point. Seems to be a popular mountain bike area. Continue to gain height, after about five hundred metres a small path heads east to the pillar. On raised ground with base partly exposed. Vegetation has been cleared otherwise would be a bit of a hunt and hack through gorse and ferns. No views but if you’re tall you could probably just about see the Sea to the south. Spider and cap in place.

Quite hard to find as obscured by vegetation and is off main path. see photos for route markers along way. Parked in Lynch lane in layby on bend opposite the forestry track then head up the track to the end turn left follow down to a clearing with the signpost about 10m prior there is a trampled path leading to trigpoint. which can just about be seen. photographed all the junctions to make easier to find.

Approached this Trig from the Jubilee Car Park, off Lynch Lane. Walked roughly Eastward on the Tennyson Trail then took the first exit left after the trail turns North. Turns out I should have taken the second exit left which would have saved a lot of walking. The pillar is surrounded by forest now, but does have an approach path that seems to be quite well maintained. Views are better from the Tennyson Trail than from the pillar. Nice walk though.

Sunny walk up from Jubilee Car Park. As long as you make sure you are on the right branch of the path in the woods, not hard to find. Great views on the way up, but few from the trig itself due to the trees.

Came all the way from Cardiff by public transport for a days trip especially to bag this one! The spot is also a Marilyn hill and my last one south of Manchester. Did a sort of circular walk from Calbourne. No real views from here so a bit disappointing.

Parked at Mottistone Down and walked E along the bridleway. Intricate network of footpaths and bridleways make this an interesting journey. The pillar is located at the end of a ride. No views. However a very satisfying walk. The pillar stands proud on a plinth. No views. Could have accessed via a bike.

Parked at SZ4703184515 just off Strawberry Lane. A good walk through Brightstone Forest, about 2 km each way. I thought that GPS was leading me into thick gorse and scrub when I closed in on pillar but a little further along footpath I discovered that it is actually in a small clearing.

Slightly tricky to reach as the short path to the trigpoint has become increasingly overgrown with gorse.

Quite a long walk up the track from the car park. Turned left, still on the Tennyson Way, then went straight up into the forest. Trig is just to the right along its own little path.

Easily accessible and highly visible being just off a public right of way. I used the public car park to the west and used a series of footpaths to reach the pillar. A lovely view point. Pillar in good condition and still retains an original plug.

Located a short distance from the Tennyson Path. Pillar is in good condition and mounted on a solid concrete plinth. We were primarily bagging the Marilyn on this walk, with which we were accompanied by our eldest son who happened to be staying on the Isle of Wight at the same time as we were. Dull weather, but some good views to be had to the south.

Walking from Yarmouth to Newport via Freshwater. Accessed this trig point from path coming up from south but then made mistake of trying to get back onto Tennyson Trail by continuing east. Thick gorse barred the way.

A very brightly white painted Trig sitting on an elevated plinth, unmissable against the background of gorse and bushes. Depite the height here the vegetation has obscured any real views. However a pleasant early evening walk to this heathland summit. The O/S website lists the computing year as 1942 and the height a/s/l as 214.152 metres (702.60 feet).
