(11) Easy to find. Parked up down Waltham Road, and entered the field not far from the speed limit sign. It's about a 8/10 minute walk to the pillar, and in a pretty much straight line from the entry point. A few folks out walking their Dogs. The pillar looks great, and all complete. The reverse side is now painted bright red (see photo) for some reason... But a pleasant evening walk in attractive farmland, and a very nice pillar, so I'll award this one an 8. REVISIT: 28.7.19 My 2nd ever pillar back in 2017. All good still. Pillar history: Built on the 25th of June 1939, at a cost of 5 11s 9d. Last maintained by the OS in December of 2000.

500 metres east of the road south of Walthan, just where land is marked on either side of road for new electrical pipeline that's being laid. Easiest to walk up north side of the tall Hawthorn tree field boundary.

My first sunset pillar!approached from waltham road, under the single barrier and straight up the track to the pillar,no deviation neccessary, think this is accessible all year round from this approach as no crops are planted on the wide track going up the field.met a lady with her dogs near the top so might be a popular dog walking area although not a prow.just saw the windmill poking its head out of the trees, was nearly dark by the time i got back to the road.

Wasn't sure which way to approach. OS map shows track to buolding and comms tower from East. However, approached on road from Waltham to West to view windmill: Beyond sharp right bend, 30 de-restriction sign and houses the comms tower can be seen up the field to the left and a track heads up in that direction for a short way. After the end of the vehicle track the headland had been mowed for a short way then it was up through weeds between the crop and hedge. Pleased to spot the pillar in this overgrown hedge.

The nearest trig to my home took some time to log because of relative inaccessibility from a road and of being surrounded by crops most of the year. The logged grid reference is only to 10 metres but the easting is significantly different from the base data.
