My second visit, different route - up the access track from Hearthstanes. Very straightforward route, but no views today, Just as I was about to leave the top another walker arrived - first ever Christmas Day walk when I've encountered another human being at the summit. My surprise at meeting someone else made me forget to take a GPS reading! Oh well, Merry Christmas everyone.

Parked at Megget Stone cattle grid (NT 1507 2030), up onto Talla Cleuch Head and another hill first then across to here. Pillar sits on W side of fence, close to the small summit cairn. Centre cap missing, tube not plugged; RHD side sight hole sealed, other 3 open. Probablt some great views from here, but very wintery today with cloud down.

Parked at Megget Stone, crossed the road and started the steep climb to Broad Law via Cairn Law. Great opportunities to take photos from Shepherds Cairn. Once your passed Cairn Law, the hike is fairly easy to Broad Law. Great views on the Eildons, Tinto Hill, Culter Fell and the Cheviots. Carries on and bagged Cramalt Craig, Dun Law, Fifescar Knowe and Dollar Law.

A nice easy to navigate "follow the fence" walk up from the Megget Stane. Great views in all directions from the summit. Loved the red sandstone chips on the trig. Walked back down via Porridge Cairn and an unnamed yet very prominent rocky cairn. When we returned to the fenceline path I managed to tread in a bog - both feet right in over the boots, silly me! Other than the bog snorkelling, a good'un for my 90th trig in the bag :-)

Good local red stone (I assume)- cement worn in direction of prevailing winds. Another pearly sunny NE day - ignore comments on clutter this is a fine broad top if a bit dry for May. Up from the main road taking track a peaceful and beautiful route - snow poles and all. Beacon fence freshly creosoted for added sensation. Culter climbs opposite lots of melting curves give a huge peaceful space - if stopping "spot the hill". Back to Manchester afterwards, sad to leave.

Got up early based on the weather forecast and got soaked and low cloud meant no views from the summit. By the time I got back to the car there wasn't a cloud in the sky so could have had an extra hour in bed. Followed the track up from Hearthsanes. Works on the Beacon being undertaken. Southern and western faces of the pillar treated to additional red stone chip protection.

A quick but excellent walk up from the Megget Stone in a brief weather window, and with more snow still on the ground than we'd expected. Interesting to see the NATS installation.

Walked up usual route from Megget Stone, lovely Southern Uplands grassy terrain underfoot, great views on this clear day, onto to Culter Fell next. We had to do Broad Law after doing Merrick the year before.

My Corbett #14, Rosie’s 10th. My closest Corbett, and one we were able to do having worked a morning shift from 7-1, nipped home got changed and drove out to the starting point by the Megget Stone. The radio masts add interest rather than aesthetic value to a hill with good views of the Uplands but as a simple ‘follow the fence’ walk it’s a little lacking in ‘wow’ factor...

Third visit. For GPS reading and updated photographs. HISTORY: Pillar completed 23rd July 1950 costing £35.7s.9d. Computed as secondary triangulation station NS84/4 in the Lanark block during 1950. Levelled for height in 1958. Last maintained by the OS in June 1977. SITE VISIT: At 840m (2757Ft) above sea level, Broad Law has the highest summit in Peeblesshire and the Scottish Borders. The triangulation pillar is still in good condition. Spider centre open. Flush bracket faces 187° south. Three sight holes open, east hole plugged. Long clear views in all directions.

vgc, no cap or plug; white pole stuck into spider centre. By fence at grassy summit, just S of what appears to be a NATS installation. From S, visited Wylies Hill (a Donald Dewey) on the way up. On returning to the road I realised my bumbag zip had failed and my camera and phone were somewhere on the hill. Back up again, luckily found them on short grass on the way down. Thats 3 visits, wonder if I will manage a 4th.

Plug missing, otherwise good condition. Very fine views on a cold clear day. Howgills and North Pennines to Arran and Ben Lawers. Heartstane missed by an uncomfortable detour. Nasty loophole in the LRA - a road in can be blocked by a house or farm. Easy to use a forest road from Tweedsmuir though.

Any pillar over 800 metres AOD is worth visiting. This is a hill I have done many times both as pleasure and also working up here on its radio towers. This is a great hill being the second highest in Scotland on main land south of Ben Lomond. The highest is that of Merrick another fine summit in the Galloway Forest. This visit was after Dollar Law and returning to Manor Water via Cramailt.

For my 300th Trig point I decided to climb the highest trig in the NT grid square as my new aim is to complete the square! Nice walk up from Megget Stane. I kept to the West of the fence on the less pronounced of the two tracks. Came down via Talla Cleuch Head.

steady walk up the access trck from heartstane, where the farmer gave us a piece of his tiny mind- i hope he doesn't miss it... were we the only people he took a dislike to, or were we the only ones to answer him back?

Other than the ironmongery, this place is spectacular. Worth the short sharp ascent.

A cold March day The views of the Southern Uplands on a clear day more than make up for man's scarring of this summit.

A good walk up from Hearthstane on a perfect January day - cloudless sky and good crisp snow. Superb views from the top and on the walk up. The pillar is still in good condition - top open.

A short walk up from the Megget Stone. Typical rolling heather clad borders hill. Lovely views of the Manor Hills, Culter hills and many others. Up here on a very, very hot summers day. Although useful for aircraft navigation the Talla VOR-DME array at the summit spoils this peaceful spot.

Broad Law's trig pillar is on the highest ground (840m) in the Scottish Borders, highest on OS Landranger map 72 and highest in the whole NT grid area. Yet, surprisingly, this triangulation station is a secondary, not a primary. All the surrounding primary stations are lower than this. Although not a stitch of paint remains, the pillar is still in very good condition apart from the open spider.

Skied up from the Megget Stone. Little effort for such a high hill, the county top for both Selkirkshire and Peeblesshire. The summit is dominated by a bandstand like object, an aircraft navigation beacon.
