Ascent from the hairpin where the public road ends. Left forest path early so missed out on the easy path up. Pillar a bit worn now, but intact metalwork. The love lock plague has struck, with a lock through one of the loops. Where did they chuck the key?

Log #319. Parked car at Tor Bracken hairpin then walked up old road towards Castlewalls. Turned right to then followed the woodland path to the 229m spot-height. From there it's an enjoyable walk along the plateau to the trig point. Great views to north, although there is some fairly substantial damage to the spider. Dropped down to the east to visit the derelict farm, then followed the old road back to the car. Enjoyable circuit. [ExP-230/MiP-26/Rev-2/BM-20/IS-31/Other-10]

Cracking walk to this one via the fort on Walls Hill and the geocache there (GCNX4C). Great views around, and an excellent circular walk descending via the path through Skiff Wood.

Second visit. To obtain GPS measurement and for photography. Parked at NS406600 where public road now ends. Road leading southeast from here has fallen into disrepair, is now gated and serves only as a public footpath. Choice of routes via ex-road to North Castlewells or via mapped (very muddy) tracks though Skiff Wood. Open grazing top. Column in fair condition. An attempt has been made to steal the spider but the perpetrator either gave up or was disturbed. Spider retains replacement OS centre cap with raised large narrow letters. Flush bracket faces 164 (SSE). Vented through NW sight hole. 360 panorama from here. Adjacent farm, North Castlewells is unoccupied and in ruins. Revisited and photographed 19/11/2011, GRP.

Damaged pillar with lots of damage around spider. Cap still present. Seems to have had a long crack down east side repaired at some point. Fabulous views from the top to the north! Access via RoW at Hartfield Farm is easy underfoot. Came back via Walls Hill which was very boggy!

Half raised letters remaining on the cap, spider exposed with only the North sight open... cracks are extending down from the spider legs. Fabulous viewing distance tonight - full sweep from Campsies beyond Glasgow round to the Arrochar Alps.. Windfarms doing their thing way off to the East and the SouthWest.

Summit field contained Highland cattle. Was under the false impression that there was only one.....a bull I assumed so I used the small ridge to hide from it as I made for the trig. Just before I came to the trig I had a vision of a load of cattle staring at me from just behind it. Fortunately the load of cattle were too busy eating grass to notice me although this wasn't one I where I stood around for five minutes drinking in the view!

First visit. To record FB number. The pillar was completed in December 1945 costing 7.19s.0d. In 1947 this marker was computed for triangulation as tertiary station NS77/T90 in the Glasgow secondary block. The flush bracket was levelled for height in 1967. This trig point was last maintained by the OS in February 1972. Walked from Paisley Gilmour Street railway station on a seven trig circuit.
