Entering this log some 6 hours after visiting Broom Hill, and my shins are still smarting from the stinging nettles encountered getting to it! Not one to visit in the summer wearing shorts! Same route as paulxtr below...I think the nice lady at West Broomhill is now rather perplexed as to the sudden interest in the Trig Point! It is not in truth a very interesting TP however :-(

Tried a stealth approach but the dog at West Broomhill was having none of it. The owner came out to investigate, but was happy enough once I told him I was there to visit the trig pillar. Decent view.

Spoke to the lady living in New House. She owns the field with sheep in next to the field with pillar. did not think the owner would mind as long as I was careful.

Approach from East. A new house and farm building have been built to the west of Broomhill. I asked about access to the pillar, the land does not belong to this farm. I was given permision to walk to Broomhills boundary after that i was on my own. i got the impresion that the adjacent farmer does not take to kindly to visitors

Something has changed here in the past nine years. Now arable, I am sure this was grazing. Will check for old photos. Carefully chosen route along tramlines. Pillar in good condition, Spider retains OS centre cap with deep indented lettering. Flush bracket faces 351, north. Vented through north and west sight holes. Nearby pylons undergoing refurbishment. Revisited and photographed 16/08/2008, GRP.
