Parked at Blacksmith's Arms and walked down Wakefield Rd to Ben Booth Lane. From the Lane this is the closest you can get to the former trig site without field hopping. Knowing this has never been found intact I settled for this view of Brown Hill. Hazy weather prevented distant views, but pleasant Kirklees type surroundings, Calder Valley, Emley Moor mast were evident.

Brown Hill Would have been a good trig in its day

GPS indicated approx 10m NE of electricity pole. Arable field. Nice view on a fine winter's day.

Trig would have been 10m R of electricity pole

Short detour up the field to check for signs of the base; nothing found. Some might consider it odd to be out in the rain, looking for something that you know isn't there 8-)

Brown Hill OS Huddersfield Sheet 102 One-Inch 1954 edition. Note also the station symbol at the crossroads to SW of Brown Hill. This was Shuttle-Eye colliery; seems unlikely that there was ever a pillar there; bolt on pit-head perhaps? All gone now; shafts filled-in 1992.
