Left lads in Wetherspoons watching Wales in Rugby world cup, approached on minor road from west to brow of hill where high walled FB joins road from left. Turn down FP alongside high wall which forms boundary to golf course to find old high metal gate in wall. 10m beyond gate crossed wall and followed edge of course upward and round with pillar appearing on skyline next to 11th green. Raining and Wales playing, no one around.

Parked to the SW then ibto field and not RoW to find path through scrub to golf course then trig however high point appears nearer mast on knoll by tree. I spoke to the green keeper who said there was a bit of a path to the side of the water compound however this was overgrown and involved a tricky fence crossing where I lost my glasses. Getting back across was easier but prickly.

First tried by going into derelict hospital grounds with no success. Parked on the road by a footpath entrance and walked down a walled path. There is a fixed metal gate in the wall and gives access to the golf course. There were no golfers around at time of visit but the course is very exposed.

Chose a rainy Saturday afternoon to attempt to access this pillar. Climbed over the gate mentioned by mickandshane and onto the course. Got shouted at by one golfer but just because I was in the way of his shot. I then helped another to locate his ball so all was cool. The trig was simple to find from there. It was just a pity I couldn't hang around too long to take in the view properly.
