Heroic views from this Yorkshire giant if its clear you can pick out the fells and dales across much of the national park and way way beyond......Big crack runs around the pillar and it has a filled in plug. Enjoyed the walk up from the car park in Buckden village, but on the middle part of the ascent the ground was unbelievably boggy even in summer. Super views over Coverdale, looking down to the village of Cray. Steep final ascent was well worth it - did this walk with 5 and 6 year old daughters and they felt real achievement (me too!) The last bit of the footpath up from Buckden via the Rake is a steep pull. The diverted path on this side of the wall as you head south to the Polish War Memorial is to be recommended (as mentioned by others) rather than the morass on the other side. Descent to Coverdale Pass is juicy in places (but nowhere near as soggy as the north side of Nidderdale.)

Parked near the waterfall at Cow Pasture, and came up via the geocache on the way. A bit boggy on the top, although no worse than we’d seen on the way up. Trig is a bit crumbly in places, but the views make the climb well worth it.
