Nasty forest trig! From Bwlch, pleasant grassy path along forest boundary to SO 13949 21171 when a way into the forest was found. After that all downhill - bramble, fern, multitude of felled branches, the forest was not giving up it's trig easily, but with blood and perseverance we bagged it. Moss covered pillar found in good condition at the presumed tump summit; cap missing, no plug; 1 sight hole open; definitely no views in this medium-dense conifer forest.

A quick hop over the fence from the east and follow the GPS to find this. Even when I was close it was difficult to see, but the trig is in good shape even with a good layer of moss on much of it's surface.

There it is!

I parked to the North East on the road that leads to the kennels, this looks simple on the map, not so! - have a look at the contour lines! it is up a steep path through brambles, dead trees and thick vegitaion, one for the more obsessed :) Pillar good condition, no views due to tree cover. mind the dog mess on the path too!!

Had my eye in this for a while as the 11th closest unlogged pillar to home and a decent hill. A real trig of contrasts fully intact but with sight holes filled in. Started from the top of Buckland lane and followed the open footpath with wide views up and down the Usk valley for just under one Km to within 100m of the trig. As the path dropped away I headed into the larch forest big mistake if without GPS I headed in for about 100m of intermittant signal then adopted a spiral search pattern to find within 5 minutes only to see an orienteering marker stuch barely 2m from the trig. At the high point I now looked out the way I had come and headed to the light only to find myself into a bracken covered clearing about 50m down from where I left the footpath and with good gps to within 30m of the trig. No views at the trig but great views on the way to it. Amazed to get a GPS coord only 1m out.
