Round trip Arkleside - Lodge Pasture - Great Haw - Arkleside. Like Mickandkim the 16km took nearly 5hrs. No path on the Great Haw end of the ridge. Wet peaty moorland with some haggs and boggy bits. Wind and rain, but at least the recent dry weather has made ground conditions not too bad. Trig easily found, posts still around it. Bailing needed (used our sandwich box!). It's a shabby example of a concrete ring: very rough concrete and shallow ring.

From the Scar House Resr car park. Lodge Pasture trig first, then along the ridge over Dead Man's Hill to here. The hole was immediately spotted with it's ring of posts around it, however, it was filled with water to more than a foot. Bailed for 5 minutes reducing the water level by just an inch (suspect it was running back in, the ground was saturated) so gave up that idea. Rolled sleeve up and got a wet arm feeling for the bolt. Had to be satis with that.

Altitude 544m. Looked for this one and I reckon I found it. There was a hole in the moor approximately with 50cm of water depth so I think I must have found it.

Easily found but waterlogged turf tough to remove so I didn't replace it. Countersunk bolt underwater tough to locate by feel, rough concrete surface. After Lodge Pasture, both from Scar House Resr car park. 2 great finds by CJO

(Dales Bus to Scar House reservoir; path across the dam; ascent to boundary fence mostly via an easy shooter's track; then boggy past the tarns.) Marker posts obvious from the fence. Hole filled with water; bailed for ~15 minutes but water seeping in and not quite able to expose the countersunk bolt. Unusually rough surface to the block. Extraordinary find by CJO. I missed Painterman by just a few hours. Rain approaching.

Parked up in Scrafton village and followed bridleway and faint paths all the way to great haw.Great find CJO easy find with the markers.Very deep water had to bail it out but could only touch bolt underwater. Very remote feel to this one replaced turf on top next visitor should bring a collapsible bowl for bailing.

”Woooohoooo - worth the slog up here” said the bagging assistant. Concrete ring with Ordnance Survey Trigonometrical Station on it, very rough cast concrete inner with a standrd 2” bolt low-set in the centre. Found 55cm (1’9”) down. Concrete circle 54cm in diameter. 27.5m along a line perpendicular to the fence, 32.7m from the strainer post. We found a lot of short wooden posts (now rotted) in the hole on top of the concrete ring which we hammered upright into the peat in a circle round the position to assist the next visitor. We refilled the hole with some “turf” cuts, so there will also be an obvious depression within the post ring.

Heather and moorland with nothing obvious at grid ref. Walked from Scar House reservoir via the quarry then onward to Great Haw and back via the Nidderdale Way in sunshine.
