First pillar of a quick trip to the Lakes. Parked on side road at foot of path (Kirkby Moor). Quite a steep ascent but short. Really great views here and the sun is out too now. Pillar in good condition, plug filled with asphalt.

On my way over to the West coast of Cumbria to see an old friend who is up from Swansea. I couldn't go empty handed so revisited Great Burney (OW). A delightful little hill and an easy approach from the SW on a good path. Dedicated to the beautiful colours of autumn. The trees losing their leaf are particularly spectacular at this time of year.

K Low cloud covering the summit meant no views which was frustrating as the outlook over the Duddon Estuary from the slopes was good. Climbed up from fell road at entrance to Rigg Well on clear path.

Good parking at SD 2595 8520 (despite the damaged No Parking sign). Took a direct line N to the hill top and trig. Centre tube has an asphalt plug; front sight hole plug beginning to degrade, the other 3 holes are open. Panoramic views.

Easy walk up from paths excellent panorama from the top trig in vgc bumped into a strange guy who reluctantly moved away from the trig to allow us to photograph it. It transpired he was a peak bagger as well who had travelled extensively.

Revisit. Approached from south. Parking by west side of unclassified road at SD259852. Up via path (mapped at 1:25K) which leads directly to summit. Great Burney. Grazing hill within LDNP. Pillar in good condition. Spider centre plugged with tar. Flush bracket faces NNW, compass measurement 350°. Vented through three sight holes, SE face plugged, innards filled with debris. Full 360° panoramic view.

Parked on the verge beside the layby on the unclassified road to the south west of Great Burney. A steep pull saw us on the gentle ridge that leads to the summit. Stupendous views all round.

Wonderful short circular walk via the Cumbria Way from Gawthwaite. Stunning views today (very high on the views to effort ratio), only wished I'd taken the 'Outlying Fells' book to identify them all! S and E s/holes open, others thin, asphalt cap, vgc.

Visited to record FB number. The pillar was completed in May 1949 costing £12.0s.9d. In 1950 this marker was computed as secondary station SD47/7 in the Barrow-in-Furness block. Flush bracket S5382 was levelled for height also in 1950. This trig point was last maintained by the OS in November 1976. Spider centre plugged.
