Time filler waiting for Unst ferry. Parked at Kirkabister (HU 5393 9557), best part of a 2k walk each way over rough and often soggy grass. Pillar sits on prominent bit of headland with extensive seascapes, Fetlar looks fine. Original centre cap retained, raised lettering; LHS sight hole open.

Travel to Canister to end of road, private track parked. Cycle to Kirkabister now ruins and across moor like ground wet.

Metal cap, wide raised letters. Lovely location. From NNW, parking at road end, stile and intermittent path.

Drove in to end of road via Cunnister then walked to Burra Ness via Kirkabister. House there open to the elements but must have been a superior building in its day. Beeline route from there very wet and this was in mid June. An uninteresting walk and placing of the TP in comparison to the more dramatic Shetland TP's.

(138) Walked up from Sandwich in a force 7 gale, a breezy walk, wondered why this trig is at the bottom of a hill, Would have expected it at the top of Hill of Burraness. Had to weight teddy down with a rock, and lost my Landranger 1 map Pillar in good condition and all brasswork intact
