Walked out past Little Ness on a farm track that fizzled out, but it was obvious which to keep going. Lots of WW2 defensive leftovers, around the pillar. Not surprising given it would have guarded the entrance to Scapa Flow prior to the Churchill Barriers being built. Lots of interesting flowers in the area as well.

Good parking down at the cemetery then slightly overgrown track down to beach. Then walked along the beach area until easy fence crossing or go under after second metal field gate then moorland to trig and building over well. Easier to keep near fence for driest route with Charles.

Roadside verge parking just W of Ness (ND 4948 9604). Walked through Little Ness after which reasonably good grass track all the way to the trig. Pillar retains original centre cap, raised lettering; rear sight hole open, front and LHD plugs degrading. Fine views.

Parked at marked cemetery and followed the beach round to the trig. This sits inside a ferocious electric fence which I circumvented by rolling under it, Mission Impossible style. Lots of birds and seals. With CJ.

Good condition pillar at the end of the ness. Ruined gun emplacements are nearby. FB faces west-ish with east-ish sighthole open only. Cap present with raised lettering. Excellent views over to Copinsay. Lots of bird life!

Parked at the church and walked around the coast - theres a path which runs around, then onto beach, then back up again. Came round corner to a whole pack of seals basking on the rocks - wife's jar nearly hit the floor!
