Mynydd Merddin. 8km circular walk from Longtown. Ascended from Clodock to the SW. Quite steep, passing frisky cattle and a few missing FP signs. Great views, esp of the Black M'tains. Pillar just right of the path, good condition but no real views. Descended N to the road. Great weather.

Located at summit of Mynydd Ferddin, a HuMP, with stunning views, particularly W to Blk Mts. Approached from minor road to north, parking awkward but spot for 1 car close to where footpath meets road at gated entrance to farm/house? Walked 800m to trig. Found in arable field hard up against wire fence and hedgerow on SE side of field boundary, no access to rear. Pillar in good condition, although minor chip to one corner of top edge; plinth exposed; 1 sight hole open, unable to determine state of rear hole; cap missing, no plug.

I think I noticed that the plug has now gone missing on this one. Approached from the north. There is a large gate to climb near the top or should I say a normal gate that has been extended upwards. Trig is not quite the highest point.

Rain eased for the climb and cam back with a vengance on the descent. lots of stiles with the trig on the wrong side of the last fence, use the gap shorter but less painful than the wire. Nice Black Mountains views around but not at best from trig itself, condition unchanged.

Pleasant if rather sweaty walk up FP from north. Hill is very flat topped so no real obvious summit. Too hazy for views. On field boundary, so slighly obscured. Fields were filled with rather lively horses.
