Parked in small layby NX 12984 61558 just S of Chlenry Bridge. Walked up the Little Tongue Farm access road then onto the open moor at the sharp bend. Soggy moorland tramp to the pillar. Carried on to the Balker Moor trig.

Parked at sharp bend in farm track ~250m E of Little Tongue after chatting with farmer. Good ATV track from there leads all the way up. Pillar sits on a fairly high plinth; constructed without a FB; original centre cap retained, raised lettering; 2 sight holes open, 1 of the 2 plugs beginning to degrade. Extensive moorland views.

HISTORY: Pillar completed 17th September 1954 costing £18.14s.6d. Computed as secondary triangulation station NX29/5 within the Girvan Block during 1955. Levelled for height value at top of pillar also in 1955. Last maintained by the OS in May 1985. SITE VISIT: Pillar in good condition. Spider has replacement OS centre cap with raised small letters. Built without a flush bracket this pillar stands atop a raised plinth and is vented through the sight hole facing 137° SE. Sight hole on NE face also now broken open. Situated on a bleak tussocky moor, this ground is very difficult to negotiate in any conditions. The unclassified road 3½km to the west offers verge parking.
