Embarrassed for my fellow Yorkists; sad to see the TP has had pilfering scumbags in attendance. All metal work gone, and the pillar is chipped and broken at most corners. [Worst condition of any TP I've seen to date]. I can imagine the TP once stood majestic on Otley Chevin - shame the trees have now hidden any view! A disappointing visit.

Parked on Old Lane. Took the public right of way from there up to the pillar, which has sadly had both its flush bracket and spider ripped out (back in 2014/15 according to the logs), probably by low life metal thieves.

This trig is just off the path that goes through Caley Deer Park. It looks like it has been vandalised as the spider on the top and the flush bracket are no longer there. It is a nice area although there are no views as trees have been planted since the trig point was put up. NB: Don't visit on a Saturday morning or you might end up joining in the Chevin Park Run.

(2195) Entrance way to Chevin Forest Park on Old Lane for parking. Pleasant walk through the woods. A few folks out walking their dogs today. Pillar soon reached, though unfortunately it is now a bit of a mess. No metalwork left - damage to top started around 2014, with both the spider and the flush bracket gone by 2015. A real shame that this has been vandalised by thoughtless dickheads after surviving intact for so long. Pillar history: Built on the 6th of October 1937, at a cost of £6 6s 0d. Last maintained by the OS in October of 1986. FB was S1872

Another revisit to another very local pillar, on a short post-work stroll from Bramhope. Pillar and surroundings unchanged from my previous visit. Still really sad that this one is so damaged, as it's in a lovely spot. Some flowers had been left on the pillar this time.

An evening revisit to this local pillar whilst on a walk up to Caley Deer Park from Bramhope; I haven't been here for a few years and had forgotten it was in such an appalling state. Very sad to see - it has been pillaged for its metalwork, and both the spider and flush bracket have been mercilessly hacked from the concrete. No need for it.

Ahh poor trig, think I'm getting into all this trig stuff too much...on the way down the muddy hill I decide to join the trig in being knackered, try to jump over ditch, try not to fall over and fail. "supraspinatus tendon full thickness tear"...should have got drunk instead but it was a lovely walk, until tear, then it started hailing!!

From the Car park to West followed well used forest trails to Trig which is situated in woodland 20m from the path, The Trig is damaged the cap , spider and Flush Bracket are no more but the Sight Holes are Open The FB would have faced 350` the view is obscured by the woodland

Bagged on a family walk along the Chevin and through the woods. My little girl's first trig (aged 6 months!). The pillar was in danger then, sited in a quiet corner off the main thoroughfare, and had obviously been attacked for the metalwork recently. The damage/vandalism that this pillar has suffered since is tragic, really. It was a great local trig; it takes a fair bit of imagination to picture the trig predating all the trees!

Interesting that the various plantations have marker boards displaying the date they were planted and the area covered. The woods killing any views from this pillar were planted in 1957 (East of the trig) and 1958 (West of the trig).

Trig in good condition with plastic plug. Now on the edge of a conifer plantation above Otley - just a few hundred yards off the Otley - Yeadon road and on an attractive woodland path. The views over lower Wharfedale were probably reasonably impressive at one time but obscured by conifers now.

Log #1. (242m). Visited while hiking the 32km Dales Way Link path from Leeds to Ilkley. Todays stretch of 9.7km from Bramhope to Menston, with a slight detour from path to get here. No views from this trigpoint; surrounded by trees!

Found this one by combining map reading with a bit of GPS assistance. Managed to find a break in the rain showers to take the 700m walk from the car park. It was actually warmer up here today than it has been down south for most of the summer !

At top of Chevin Forest Park. Lots of footpaths & bridleways to explore. Note to self: bring mtb next time. Plastic plug. No views, other than of trees, but nice location nonetheless.

Very restricted view from trig point as it is surrounded on 3 sides by trees and the 4th side is probably the least scenic view of them all!

Near Otley Chevin. You cant see anything for the trees, trees & more trees. Latest visit, have been up innumerable times before (and since), its a very popular area especially on sunny weekends.

No views from here now the trees have grown. It is a lovely forest especially like today in the sunshine.

Good views across Wharfedale from Otley Chevin, a bit further along (Belper in Derbyshire has a Chevin as well - a common derivation?). JMW Turner painted landscapes in this area but AFAIK didn't bag trigs! Latest of numerous visits 21 Jan 2007 - no change in condition.

tree-trig revisited 24 May 2004 on the way to Otley Chevin.
