One of two pillars bagged during an 11 mile circular walk from Malham. I followed the way marked path Calton towards The Weets. The re are no paths to the pillar but it is easily found accross the beck at the top of the hill to the right where there are great views in all directions. The pillar is in good condition and retains its original centre.

I parked in Calton and headed up the ROW into Foss Gill, took the right trod at the gate to the fell (next to a bench), and enjoyed traversing the beautiful gill itself. A series of sylvan waterfalls hidden amongst the vegetation - lovely. I crossed the shallow beck and picked up the rough path up the eastern side of the gill, disturbing a roe deer before nipping over a damaged section of barbed wire fence and out onto the fell. Calton Moor is typical dull Dales moorland, grassy tussocks and a dearth of wildlife. The pillar soon appeared on the horizon with stunning views in all directions, Pendle Hill to the south, Rylstone to the east. Stunning. The pillar itself is in fine condition with an original cap. For those who don't like fence-hopping, there are gates at various points on this fell/moor that link up the access land, so you can easily get to this trig without ever trespassing. A surprisingly superb bag, this. Onwards to The Weets...
