Seeked permission from farmer at Camp Farm. Trig is located next to a fence and hedgerow.

Parked at the end of Camp road. Walked to the corner of the footpath and climbed over low wall into field. It's then just a short walk along two field edges to find trig point.

Takes some finding, difficult not to get philosophical about how long the trigs will last as we stride around the Roman outpost. A surprisingly beautiful walk from the golf course and into wild copses, many flowers of meadow and sea and the rub of a cornfield.

Visited after spending time in the museum. Fields between museum and pillar now recovered from the archaeological dig. Missing plug. In hedgerow. No paint. Good views over Solway Firth.

Went back for a better pic. Walked up from the battery/museum that overlooks the sea. The fields between there and the pillar are the site of big Roman fort (see 'Timeteam' prog)

approach from camp street. Archaeological dig in progress, asked several people who was is in charge to get permission to visit pillar. Nobody could help. We then walked upto trig along grassy bank, wereupon the person in charge revealed themselves. No ensuing problems. Probably best to visit after 1700.

HISTORY: Pillar built in October 1949 costing 9.5s.0d. Computed as secondary triangulation station NY11/4 within the Workington block during 1952. Levelled for height in 1966. Last maintained by the OS in January 1977. SITE VISIT: Pillar in good condition. Spider centre open. Flush bracket faces northeast, ~43 across field. Front sight hole plugged, others buried, didn`t excavate. Views to Criffell and Lake District. Bee hives still in business, fourth from trig end occupied.

Same access info as previous - thanks guys ! The surrounding fields were full of cows today but I bluffed my way past them. What a strange grubby TP. No sign of bees, perhaps they left too.

We parked at the top of Camp Street and I scrambled over the stone wall (fortunately the railings are long gone) and followed the hedge line. It's a bit trespassy but you're not in view of the farm at all. The trig is just to the East of the hedgeline and in a small enclosure of ddecrepit beehives - no bees about at this time of year. Plug missing.
