HISTORY: Pillar completed 5th June 1958 costing 79.11s.9d. Computed as tertiary triangulation station NG80/DM/T25 during 1959. Levelled for height also in 1959. Last maintained by the OS in July 1980. DISTOMAT SURVEYING: A station number preceded by /DM show the station was a 'distomat' observed station, fixed to fourth-order standards. The distomat stations were only fixed by observing distances and not angles, unlike other stations that were fixed by angle and distance methods. SITE VISIT: Approached from northwest. Parked just inside track entrance at NN083760. Followed mapped track and path to comms mast and summit. Pillar in good condition. Spider retains original OS centre cap with raised large narrow letters. Flush bracket faces NW, ~317. All four horizontal sight holes open, pillar bolt viewable. Full 360 panoramic view broken only by higher ground to the southwest and the comms masts to the northeast. Perfect view of Ben Nevis.

Very good viewpoint above Fort William and straight up the Great Glen. Ascent via ridge from Camusnagaul. There is a grotty road up from Achphubil.

I parked near the loch side at the beginning of the wooded section, having driven from the Glenfinnan end rather than take the ferry across from Fort William. A walk up through the woods eventually led to a footpath leading on to the hillside. Great views from here. All sightholes are open giving a clear view of the reference mark inside.
