This pillar is tucked into the south west corner of the Cartmel peninsular and sits behind a large 16th century working farm which overlooks Morcambe Bay. On all new paths I walked from Cartmel via Holker Estate to Cark and approached via the coastal path. Despite knocking on the doors, nobody answered, although I could see the "mistress" through the window. Sod it, so did a commander raid from the farm track along 3 hedges and through 3 gates. All is good and I felt it was a welcome addition to the farm. A bit late to the party, but congratulations to Llanelli for putting up a well orchestrated fight and winning. Canon Winder is dedicated to you.

Parked up at the entrance to the farm and walked along the road up to the farm house where a nice lady was only too pleased for us to nip up to the pillar. The field had only just been sprayed with slurry but fortunately there was a clear route up by sticking close to the fence. Great views all around, especially over to the Lakeland Fells. Fantastic chimney on the farm house too. Simply retraced our route back to the car and onto Humphrey Head.

Ahh thank goodness for the man emptying his tanker of the brown stuff. Waited for him to wander over, mentioned the lump of concrete and he directed us to the gates for access. The way it perches so prominently weirdly reminded me of some of Islay's finest. Fine rambling farm pretty fantastical too. Despite the dire weather forecast and gloriously dark skies finished the walk mainly dry. Glorious bit of coast glad to have visited at last. Pit stop for sunset at Hunphrey Head then back down south.

Loved the location.Pillar is set on a funny looking mound above a 15th century farmhouse with a great outlook to the sea or the fells. Walked up the farm drive as they were cutting grass for their 1st cut of silage. Asked permission at the farmhouse which was readily given with a smile. A superbly run friendly farm; well done the farmer.

I don't know how other approached this pillar but we (Shane, my brother Jim and myself) parked at Sand Gate and took the coastal path south. The path runs along the foreshore and when you get to the farm there is a gate which says 'No entry'. I tentatively climbed over this (with Jim and Shane lokking on) and approached the farmhouse. There was a light on inside so I rang the bell and knocked the door but got no answer. There were two 4x4s parked in the yard but nobody seemed to be about, so with heart pounding I approached the trig and recorded it's details, expecting to be challenged at any minute. I wasn't, so made my way back to Jim and Shane and the safety of the footpath. Not a very welcoming place but quite a nice trig. Plug with indented lettering.
