I was so convinced that I had visited this pillar , I marked it off on the app, then couldn't find any records or photos. I decided to go again and found that I definitely hadn't been before. Took the bus to St Cyrus ( could have done it from Marykirk but that would have meant 2 buses and a long wait between them. It is over 3.5 miles from St Cyrus . Spider intact, pillar in good condition and I gave it 7 because you can see Scurdie Ness lighthouse from it. I walked back to St Cyrus then as it was a beautiful day, on up to Gourdon by the coastal path (I did top up with coffee and cake in the coffee shop at St Cyrus)

Mapped track up west side of wood to wide, grassy ride thru' trees to trig. Trig on far side of forest fence between fence and large clump of gorse - will need pruning back occasionally.

From St Cyrus Nature Reserve and along the minor road to Marykirk. The track up the west side of the hill led into the wood and near the top a faint path led southwards to the pillar amongst the tall grass and gorse bushes. Gorse obscured the flush bracket on the south face but managed to clear a path to get a picture. Best views seaward to the south and east.

Parked roadside just past the small bridge to the north-west of the track, and then a brisk, hearty pace up to the highest point of the track to turn right through a grassy slope between trees to easily discover the pillar set in long grass. Pleased to see its original cap in place (with shallow lettering), and all four sight-holes just about closed ( one has a tiny hole; maybe the filling is slowly disintegrating.) Raining most of this visit, but as I reached the pillar it stopped and the sun 'shined' out giving me fine views over to the North Sea. A lucky visit for it was soon raining again upon my return, but that's good for I love the rain! (Currently reading: Rain by Melissa Harrison: four walks in the rain).
