Initially my GPS pointed towards the mound too but then settled down on top of the earth bank separating the road from the field, The bank has a wall built along part of it but my coords led me to just the end of the wall. The mote that Dusty refers to however makes sense for there to be a block on too.

Motte seems to mark location. Or just in front.
