Calmac ferry over then go via Balliemore and followed ATV track all the way to the trig. Boggy in places but not awful. No bracken as all died down woohoo! Back same way but took the new road to the marina for a coffee then the marina ferry back into town. Enjoyable afternoon.

Bit off the beaten track. Followed the track near the power lines but came back near the farm. Bit boggy underfoot in a few places but it had been raining for 5 days :) . Really really enjoyed this.

Caught the cute little Kerrera Ferry from Gallanach and made for the pillar from the inland Balliemore direction. I took the ATV track that cuts off left through the farm and followed that as best as I could towards the Trig. The track is quite faint in places and also a little boggy, but as long as you're heading for the islands highest point then you'll be OK. A fairly grey day on my visit, but still good views back towards Oban and especially South-West down the sound of Kerrera.

Took ferry to Kerrera and then took the track to the left for the castle and tearoom. Before the hill descends to the tearoom I off roaded to the right straight uphill. A few boggy places and cows up near the trigpoint. Lovely views from vanessa pillar back across to Oban.

We went cross country via Balliemore - it was easy enough to find the trig despite being very boggy. We thought we could continue cross country to the end of the island to see the castle, but ended up at a ridge above the Tea Room which we couldn’t find a way down from, maybe we’d have found a route if it wasn’t for the shoulder high bracken! We had to retrace our steps back through the bog and ended up coming down the Quad track to Ardchoric (which would have been a much easier route to ascend as well). The effort was rewarded with stunning views across to Oban and the islands though.

Stayed on the track heading towards the tea room until NM 8159 2708 when diverted off for the summit - others have headed up hill earlier but was holding out for the tea rooms first not realizing how far along the track it is. Rejoined the track at NM 8101 2701 to bag coffee and fruit scones at the tea room before heading off for the other island tumps. Another fine vanessa pillar albeit with minor chipping to top edges; original top cap retained, raised lettering; rear sight hole open. Extensive island and seascape views.

Log #296. Passenger ferry from Gallanach, costing £4.50 for a return journey. Very enjoyable walk past Ardchroic and Dail Righ, to the bunkhouse at Lower Gylen. Visited the spectacular castle first of all, which offers fantastic views to Mull, Seil, and the Garvellachs. Had a huge slab of a sandwich in the bunkhouse byre for lunch, then took a direct route from the back of the bunkhouse (NM806271) to the top of the waterfall (NM807273). From there it was a meandering route up to the trigpoint to avoid a herd of coos. Great views along the sound from Minard to Dunollie. Followed sheep tracks back down to Ardchroic and on to the ferry. Great wee trip, very good fun. [ExP-217/MiP-22/Rev-2/BM-16/IS-30/Other-9]

There are worse things to do on a wet day ... I think.
