Walked up the steep-ish well-made path from Beacon Hill Lower Car Park after completing Beacon Hill Country Park parkrun. Easy to find. Charnwood Trig Pillar sits atop Beacon Hill, the second highest point in Leicestershire. Spider and FB intact, cap replaced, OS plaque installed. Superb 360 degree panarama including Bardon Hill, Copt Oak, Bradgate Park & Old John, Leicestershire Wolds, Loughborough, south Nottinghamshire and south Derbyshire.

Country park, straightforward access via track. Tarmac plug, spider and countersunk loops polished, GPS plaque, one sighting hole open. Concrete base set on rocky outcrop at summit. Not the brightest of days but impressive long-distance views.

I parked in a lay by on the main road and then took the short walk back to Beacon Hill Country Park following the road to the pillar which is sited on a rocky outcrop. I passed two Wood carvings along the way and good views can be seen in every direction from the pillar. It is generally in good condition but the foundation is partly exposed no doubt due to erosion and the original centre is missing from the spider.

Bagged on my birthday! Was a tad windy as you can tell from the photos! Great views but sadly a bit misty today. If you are really clever and just want to bag the trig, park in the top car park and leg it - you can see the trig - then you can get out in time for the free 10 minutes parking! We stayed and had a good walk and paid up, we are good people.

(2212) Grabbed a parking spot on main road, and then walked back to Beacon Hill Country Park. Raining fairly steadily, but still a good few folks about here today. Nice walk to the pillar. A lovely place to wander around in, but boy, these ancient rocks are a bit of a bugger to negotiate! The pillar itself sits a bit incongruous thanks to the dollop of concrete to anchor it, but hey. All good, though the centre cap is missing and filled in. No 'S' on the FB - not come across that many of those. But a lovely one to bag all told, with some impressive views on offer despite the drizzle.

My second visit, this time chose a day of glorious clear sunny weather (as opposed to drizzle and mist) and the views were spectacular. I do have a great sentimental attachment to this hill, nice to come back on such a perfect day.

re-visit. 1st logged visit in 2007, but first came with parents and brother when a child in the 1960s, and many times since. As ever , enjoyed the far reaching views. Third recent pillar in the 29xx series which don not have an "s" on the FB. Surprised there's no logged visit since 1st January. Avoided yesterday when nearby as I thought it would be crowded and a health risk. Today, pleasant with people keeping well apart and enjoying the sun.

Must be 40 years since I was last here, I grew up 5 miles north of here in the village of Sutton Bonington and from my bedroom window could look out over the Soar Valley and across towards Loughborough and the Charnwood Forest, and Beacon Hill was prominent on the sky-line. We used to come up here regularly with the Scouts to play activity games of an evening, some form of ‘team tag’ games trying to capture the Trig Point or the 'Pano' viewfinder close by. Returned today on family business, non stop rain and mizzle limited what would be the excellent views. Score of 10 for nostalgia, just 6 points for the view today :-(

3 of 3 Dropped son off in Loughbro' to pick up his motorbike. Managed to leave the car on the verge opposite the Country Park entrance. Saved the parking fee so treated myself to an ice lolly. Trig is at the top of some of the oldest rock in the UK, 800 million years old according to an info board. Great views to enjoy.

Fascinating rock formation hereabouts and a great viewpoint. Paused awhile to consume our sandwiches and enjoy the all-round scene during our regular 500 mile trip from south to north. My first Leicestershire trig and a good one.

Nice location with easy access - if you don't mind paying £2 for parking (free for 10 mins if you can out and back to it in that time - auto barriers so cannot avoid the charge if over the 10 mins). However, verge parking available just outside the car park entrance - baggers don't pay! Pillar has an asphalt plug sealing the central tube; RHS sight hole open. Extensive panoramic views.

KJF One of several visits to the hill top (including a midnight on New Year's Eve) which for some reason I don't seem to have logged. Good views from the top of the outcrops with a convenient P&D car park near the summit though locals seem to park on the roadside to avoid the cost.

On the way down to Luton and a few planned trigs that along the way that the geocache YOSM (GC45CC) has visited and this was one of them. Paid the £2.50 and was rewarded with splendid views at this trig and the pillar is in good order.

Avoid the car parks - expensive. Lovely walk up. Geologically significant. The bedded volcanic ash is supposedly blown from volcanoes in the Wrekin area in Shropshire and settled in Pre-Cambrian seas, Excellent views on a lovely afternoon in early March.

Been here many times in my youth. It is worth paying the parking fee if wanting a walk around. However there is room just to the west for a few cars to park on the muddy verge. Great views on a sunny day.

I live in Leicester unfortunately and go up the Peaks every sunday but this sunday was forcast bad weather but as per usual they were wrong so i fancied a drive to Beacon Hill which despite I've lived in Leicester all 18 years of my life i've never been here but yea some good rock outcrops for leicester shire along with good views

Another fantastic viewpoint on a glorious day! Had been here sometime ago to find the geocache and didn't log the trigpoint then. Managed to get away without paying the carpark fee by running up to the trig quickly! Asphalt plug replacement. All sightholes closed. Traces of paint and a very tiny bit of graffiti. Huge concrete base. Very minor cracks on top surface but generally unharmed! Great spot!

248m. Looks like a good one to revisit - good car park, excellent views. I picked the perfect day, we could see the power stations (Ratcliffe & Willington), the steam train on the Great Central Railway, M1, and various other trig points on nearby hills. Recomended just for the views.

Must be one of the higest points around this area, presumably why it's called Beacon Hill :) In any case, the trigpoint is atop lots of nice pointy rocks, great fun to climb over, and a wonderful 360 view of everything, on a clear day it's lovely! There's a nice walk/bumpy ride back down the path, going East.

An easy stroll up from the car park at the Beacon Hill Country Park. The centre plug is missing and the hole blocked up but apart from that, the pillar is in good condition. The Ranger said that you could see five counties on a clear day but today was overcast and murky. Even so, the views were pretty spectacular.

Leicestershire. It was a hot and sunny day and I stopped here to eat my lunch before heading north. A nice short walk and good views.

Beacon Hill. Very popular place and again a good orienteering area. Plenty of visits, including one ill advised climbing trip. Boy is hornstone slippy! Big view from a hill often wrongly blamed on being the highest in Leicestershire. (Thats whatsleftofBardonHill)
